'But I'm a good person!"

I want to take a moment and think about a simple comment we hear from numerous people, probably on an everyday basis.  We often hear people say when asked about whether or not they are saved, “Well no, but I’m a good person.”  Garrett did a great job in his invitation last month about who we will see in Heaven when he touched on this.   There’s nothing wrong with being a good person, in fact it’s a necessity in order to be a good Christian, but is it enough?

Matthew 7:13-14 tells us that, “narrow is that gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”  Well that raises a issue.  If the scriptures tell us that “there are few who find the narrow way,” and there are many people who feel that being “good” is enough to be saved, then who is right?   The fact of the matter is, simply being good or doing good things for others isn’t enough to get us into Heaven.  We must be willing to seek him out and obey his word.

If we are not willing to do his will and decide to take a gamble on just being good, then we will end up like the rest of those mentioned in the scripture.  “…For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.”

- Jordan Hopkins
