And all that is within me,

And forget none of His benefits.

Make Your Calling and Election Sure

2 Pet 1:1-10

1              Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

2              Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,

3              as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,

4              by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

5              But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,

6              to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,

7              to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.

8              For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9              For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

10           Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

We are to make our calling sure.

As  Christians we need to examine ourselves daily to make sure we are living in such a way that our calling will be sure.

Have we made our calling sure by obeying all the commands of the gospel?
Was I scripturally baptized into Christ for the remission of my sins?
Am I growing in grace? Am I abounding in the knowledge of Christ?
Am I utilizing the talents Christ has given me? Am I bearing fruit for Christ?

Paul expressed it this way in 2 Cor 13:5. Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.

2 Peter 1:3-4 reads as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises,

God calls us through the Gospel

II Th 2:13-14  But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,

14   to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If you are not a Christian the way to start to make your calling sure is to obey the Gospel

The way to do that is to believe in Jesus - Jn 8:24, repent of sins - Ac 17:30-31, confess Jesus as Lord - Ro 10:9-10, and to be baptized - Mt 28:19; Mk 16:15-16; Ac. 2:38;
Let us all strive to make our call1ng and election sure.
