Nothing Is Free

Nothing in life worth having comes free.  I’m sure we’ve all heard that expression in some form or fashion.  And I can think of no truer statement.  From when we’re in school and we work and strive hard to make good grades and continue climbing the educational ladder.  To when we embark on careers and strive hard to show ourselves as good employees and try to further our successes in our respective fields.  Well, being a Christian is no different. 

        Just as we strive to do better and achieve more in our daily lives, we should do the same with our spiritual lives.  Hard work pays off spiritually just as it does in our daily lives.  2 Timothy 2:15 tell us, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”  Another good example is in Nehemiah 4:6 where Nehemiah mentions while rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem, “So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.” 

        We can see from numerous examples in the Bible that God desires us to work for him.  And not only does God desire work, but demands it of us as his children.  In 2 Thessalonians 3:10 we read, “For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.”

        Good hard work is something that we can all be proud of.  Everyone has a spiritual job to do, some may be more skilled at some things than others, and that’s ok.  God gives us all different and equally important strengths that we must use for his work.  Just as we read in 2 Timothy, let’s be workers for God who need not be ashamed, rightly dividing his Word.
