New Testament Promises

Today the world is in chaos and turmoil with the fear of illness, the fear of the uncertainty of what lies ahead.  This turmoil and fear can cause much anxiety and even for Christian people it can cause us to lose sight of the fact that the Almighty God is a God who knows all, sees all, and has power and dominion over all.  This same God has made promises to His people (Christians) on the pages of the New Testament.  Perhaps realizing and reminding ourselves of these promises and realizing that God always keeps His promises can calm our fears and remind us of what really lies ahead for those who choose to love and obey God and His commands.

Here are some of the things God has promised His faithful children in the New Testament:

  • I John 2:25- Eternal life, “And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.”

  • James 1:12-The crown of life, “Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”

  • James 2:5-Heirs of the kingdom, “Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?”

  • Heb. 4:1-Rest, “Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.”

  • Heb. 9:15-Eternal inheritance, “And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.”

  • II Pet. 1:4-Escape from corruption, “by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

  • II Pet. 3:13-New heavens, new earth, “Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”

We must remind ourselves everyday that though the world may be in chaos, we serve a God who has proven Himself faithful in all covenants.  God keeps His promises!!!! (You can read the pages of the Bible and check His track record.  It’s perfect!!)  Whatever may happen in this world and in our lives, we are promised a better, permanent home in eternity if we will remain faithful until the end (Rev. 2:10).  “Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the Lord.” (Psalm 31:24)
