Dig Your Well Before You're Thirsty!

INTRODUCTION

The title illustrates a simple yet important fact of life...

We cannot wait until we are thirsty to begin digging a well.  If we do, we will likely die of thirst before we get the water we need.  We must prepare ahead of time, before the need arises.

There are times of spiritual "thirst". If we wait until such times to "dig our wells", we may be too late.     We need to be "digging our wells" now!

Are we digging our wells before we're thirsty?

THE NEED FOR WELLS

THE DAY OF JUDGMENT...

There is a day of judgment coming in which the world will be judged - Ac 17:30-31 when we will all stand before Christ - Ro 14:10-12; 2 Co5:10.

It will be too late to begin "digging wells" if we are spiritually "thirsty" on that day!

IN TIMES OF TEMPTATION...

The Christian life is fraught with temptation because of our adversary, the devil, - 1Pe 5:8 and because of our own fleshly desires - Jm 1:14; Mk 7:21-23.

Do we have "wells" to quench our spiritual thirst when we are tempted?

WE SHOULD DIG OUR WELLS TO

PREPARE FOR JUDGMENT...

Remember that God has provided His Son as an atonement for sin - 1Jn 4:9-10.

Have we begun digging our wells by obeying the gospel of Christ?

PREPARE FOR TEMPTATION...

Remember what God has provided.  He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able - 1Co 10:13.  We also have His children as our brothers and sisters to support us in our efforts.  We have Him as our Father - 1Jn 3:1 and His Son as our Advocate and propitiation who stands ready to assist us when we have sinned - 1Jn 2:1-2.

His blood will cleanse us from all sin as we confess to one another - Jm 5:16.

Are we digging our wells by continuing steadfastly in prayer, in the Word and in fellowship with the family of God?

Have we let the "wells of salvation" God graciously provides to become dried up through our own spiritual neglect?  If so, then we need to be sure to.---
