What Saith The Scriptures About The Word?
Through the years, the skeptics of the Bible have been countless. Even among religious-minded people, there is much confusion and division regarding the Bible. Let's notice some things relative to the word of God, the Bible.
It Is From God
The Bible makes the claim numerous times that it came from God as opposed to man. For example, in 2 Timothy 3:16 it is stated: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." The word inspiration as used in this verse has the idea of being God-breathed.
In writing to the Saints at Thessalonica, Paul penned: "For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe" (1 Th. 2:13).
It Is Settled
Concerning the word of God, the Psalmist declared: "Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven" (Ps. 119:89). This teaches you and me that man cannot change God's Word. Jesus stated: "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" (Mt. 24:35). King Jehoiakim tried to do away with God's Word to no avail (Jer. 36:23).
It Is Sufficient
The Bible, God's Word, is sufficient to do what God intended for it to do. Jesus stated: "Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you" (Jn. 15:3). How are we made clean through the word? Notice what Peter declared: "Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth...." (1 Pt. 1:22). When one obeys the Word of God, he will be saved.
It Is The Standard
Jesus affirmed: "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day" (Jn. 12:48). The Lord is returning (2 Pt. 3:10) and when He does, there will be a Judgment (2 Cor. 5:10). The standard which will be used on that day is His infallible word (Ro. 2:16).
