How We Live is Defined By Our Heart

How We Live is Defined By Our Heart

What is in our hearts will define who we are. Whether good or evil, our heart will show itself. In Mark 7:21-23, Jesus says, "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man."

So what do our hearts reveal about ourselves? What do our hearts say about our attitude towards God or our fellow brethren? Paul said concerning his brethren at Philipi in Philipians 1:3-4, "I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy..." Is this how we feel about our brothers and sisters? Do we remember one another in prayer like we should?

How do our hearts feel about sin? Paul wrote to the church of the Thessalonians in 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 concerning good and evil. Paul wrote, "Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil." Paul also wrote in Romans 12:9, "Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good." These two passages show us we can have no tolerance for evil, only that which is good.

There was an old show when I was growing up called, "McGee & Me." There was a saying from that show which I still remember, "Garbage in is garbage out." It was said while talking about our minds, if all we dwell on is evil and ugly, then that is what we'll produce.
