"The Three Loves Of A Disciple"
In the Great Commission, Jesus wanted His apostles to make disciples...
Mt 28:19-20Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
A disciple is a learner, and a follower.
Discipleship involves many things, but especially that we love 2 Peter 1:5-7
5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
How can a disciples show his love? There are a lot of ways, here are three of them.
A disciple: Loves God and His Son
Matt 22:37Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
1 John 5:1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him.
A disciple: Loves the brethren
John 13:34-35 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
A disciple: Loves the lost
Rom 10:1Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.
How can we show our love as a disciple?
To God and His Son through worship in Spirit and truth - John 4:23-24
But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.
24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
And by keeping His commandments - John 14:15"If you love Me, keep My commandments.
To the brethren through fellowship
We can fellowship with one another. By coming together as a church, for the Lord's Supper and other means of edification Acts 20:7 Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread…… 1 Cor 14:26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.
To the lost through evangelism.
We can teach the lost. Rom 10:14How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
As disciples let us strive to love God and Jesus, our brethren, and the lost, and demonstrate this love more and more.
